THE FIRST LIGHT
Photographic series
2016-2020

Based on the story of a formerly blind fisherman who, at the age of 46, unexpectedly underwent an operation and saw light for the first time in his life, I photographed the first light of the day at the locations of my photographic journey.

“In her work The First Light, Miriam Ferstl tells the moving story of a Croatian fisherman born blind who is granted the gift of sight at the age of 46. The way light gradually finds its way into his lifelong darkness is rendered with sensitivity and artistic depth.”
